Step 6 - Quarantine and Removal of Objects Detected

Quarantine: Ad-Aware includes a Quarantine, which can back up detected objects before they are removed. This can be useful if a program stops working after certain detected objects have been removed ... you can restore the objects detected in a manner very similar to an antivirus quarantine. The program is preconfigured to automatically quarantine the selected objects before they are removed, so no need to press "Quarantine". Just use the "Quarantine" if you have the option to "Quarantine automatically obj. before deleting "activated (green), under Home & Safety General Settings (gear icon).

Elimination:
From the window "Full Scan" ...
Click "Next".
This takes you to the window "Results" ... this is where you need to check the objects you want to delete. There are many options available with a click right mouse button.
It is recommended (as indicated above) to remove all objects unless you want to ignore some (see below for instructions on the list of items ignored).
To delete the entire right-click the right mouse button on the Results List and click "Select all objects".
DO NOT click the "Quarantine", this is done automatically
as explained above.
Click "Next" to remove the chosen objects.
Click "OK".
Quarantine will be made and objects may be removed later.

[NOTE: After removing a Browser Hijacker (browser hijacker), Ad-aware 6 will make its home page in "about: blank", so you need to configure your home page manually. The reason for this is that the hijack (hijacker) has changed the page, and since Ad-aware 6 does not know what existed before the hijack, the returns to a blank page. If you do not notice any difference, please disregard this note.]

List of Objects Ignored

Whenever possible, place the list before removing anything.
If you want to ignore some of the detected objects:
From the same window "Results" that lists the detected items, select items from the list to "ignore".
Click the right mouse button in the window of exploration results and select "Add selection to ignore list of objects."
Click "OK".
Then continue with the removal process.

Subsequent scans with Ad-Aware 6

While it is recommended a full scan (user) for its first "clean", you can run the SmartScan (Smart Screening System) after it. SmartScan is a set of preset scanning options.
Ad-Aware comes with predefined options that many users will find sufficient for their needs exploration. [Of course, if a user need (or want) more or less than defined here, can always perform a full scan]
SmartScan uses these scan options: Scan Memory, Scan Registry Deep Scan Registry, System Folder, Cookies, and then conditional scans based on what it found.

From the main screen click the "Browse" button.
On the next screen select "smart system check."
Click "Next" to begin the exploration of AA.
Follow the same instructions above for quarantine and removal. The SmartScan option is faster than the full scan (User).

Miscellaneous

If you use any other Anti-Trackware program to remove detected content immediately before performing a scan with Ad-aware 6, you need to perform a full system scan to ensure that the objects have been successfully eliminated. Do not use the SmartScan option in this case. It is also recommended that you restart your computer between different runs of the programs.

Spybot detection by Ad-Aware:
The reason that Ad-Aware 6 SpyBot detects backups is that these backups are simply relocated within a password protected archive. AA will detect any object that is in their database if they are in your system ... even if they are compressed (this includes System Restore, etc.).. AA does not search the SB files, only the objects that are contained in them. This is what the program was designed to find all instances of the objects in your database regardless of where they are. This is not something to worry about. You can add to the list of ignored objects AA, or use for screening did not explore the SpyBot folder backup.

Sending new files for evaluation

There will be times when new or improved objects appear and can cause problems before being included in new reference files Ad-Aware. These objects of course not be detected and need to be referred for evaluation. In those cases will be appreciated if you can contribute to the fight against this kind of activity by submitting those files found. There is a File Submission Tool (complete with instructions) for sending these files with a brief description here:

http://www.lavahelp.com/submit/

More about the capabilities of Ad-Aware.

The user also has the option to ignore the objects you choose to maintain (because some programs will not work without them). It might be wise to seek alternative programs that are "clean" and perform the same function, then remove everything found in the exploration, since these objects could be possibly causing the problems you are experiencing. The program will detect Data-Mining objects and Trackware, Malicious Cookies, Dialers BHOs and (Dialers) as well as other offensive objects exist.

AA does not detect MRU ("Most Recently Used" Most Recently Used) ... are redundant and do not represent a threat to user privacy. There are specialized programs that handle MRUs if the user chooses not to keep such information on their computers. Many people love the convenience that MRUs represent.

As always, items are listed in the log file to keep AA are optional (ignore) or eliminated. It depends on each user to decide what load and run on your computer.
